CLEMSON — A Clemson defensive back suffered an injury in last Saturday’s scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

The Clemson Insider learned on Monday afternoon that cornerback Shelton Lewis suffered a lower-leg injury during the two-hour scrimmage. Our sources tell us Lewis is on crutches. They also said he was unable to put pressure down on his leg.

As of right now, there is no word on whether Lewis has had any test to confirm if there is any damage to his lower leg. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is expected to address the media following Thursday’s scrimmage and will likely address Lewis’ situation at that time.

A sophomore, Lewis came into camp competing for one of the two starting spots at cornerback. Last year, he was credited with seven tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which he returned 46 yards for a touchdown.

He played in all 13 games in 2023, including two starts while compiling 150 snaps. Lewis was one of six Clemson true freshmen to appear in all 13 games last year, joining linebacker Jamal Anderson, safety Khalil Barnes, wide receiver Tyler Brown, defensive end T.J. Parker and cornerback Avieon Terrell.
