Head coach Dabo Swinney updated the status of an injured Clemson defensive back following Thursday’s scrimmage.

Shelton Lewis suffered an injury in last Saturday’s scrimmage at Memorial Stadium. The Clemson Insider learned on Monday that the sophomore cornerback suffered a lower-leg injury during the two-hour scrimmage.

Swinney provided an update on Lewis’ status after Thursday’s scrimmage, confirming that he’s dealing with a short-term injury.

“Yeah, he’s day-to-day right now,” Swinney said. “It’s lower-body (injury).”

Lewis came into camp competing for one of the two starting spots at cornerback. Last year, the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was credited with seven tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which he returned 46 yards for a touchdown.

Lewis played in all 13 games in 2023, including two starts, while compiling 150 snaps. The Stockbridge, Ga., native was one of six Clemson true freshmen to appear in all 13 games last year, joining linebacker Jamal Anderson, safety Khalil Barnes, wide receiver Tyler Brown, defensive end T.J. Parker and cornerback Avieon Terrell.
