During the course of spring ball and throughout fall camp, Ryan Linthicum has only solidified himself as Clemson’s starting center.

After logging just over 100 snaps over the first three years of his career, the redshirt junior has really stepped up and according to offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, is ready to fill the void at what is arguably the most important position along the offensive line.

“Ryan has done a really good job,” Riley said. “I think he has just gotten better and better.”

The fact that Linthicum has been taking most of the first-team reps has only allowed him to sharpen his skills.

“Obviously, with the amount of reps that he has gotten compared to last year, felt like he would take a step and he has.”

With starters returning at every other position up front, Linthicum will have the luxury of playing along side a wealth of experience, which should make his transition from reserve to starter a little more smooth.

Linthicum will get tested right off the bat with the 14th-ranked Tigers taking on No. 1 Georgia on Saturday in Atlanta and Riley believes getting to compete against that Clemson defense every day in practice should have him as best prepared as possible.

“Everything we have tried to throw at him, what he is going against every single day in practice, who he is practicing against, you are able to get a really good evaluation on him that way,” Riley said. “And ultimately that has made him better and made our offensive line better.”
