BELTON-HONEA PATH- Marquise Henderson’s stellar start to his senior season continued on Friday night as the Clemson commit had nine carries for 196 yards and three touchdowns in Belton-Honea Path’s dominating 55-6 win over Laurens.

Henderson wasted no time in getting going in this one. On the very first play of the game he went 85-yards for a touchdown, putting BHP up 7-0 right off the bat. He would add another first quarter touchdown run of 27-yards, before capping his night off with a 28-yard touchdown run in the third, his final carry of the night.

However, what made the night even more special was the 20-yard run in the second quarter that gave Henderson sole possession of the school’s all-time record for rushing yardage. The senior is now at 4,990 career rushing yards and counting.

“It feels good,” Henderson told The Clemson Insider. “I’ve been working for these moments since I was in ninth grade. You know, I couldn’t be here without my family, the coaches and my teammates. I’m just glad I did it and I got it done with.”

Henderson grew up a fan of the rival Gamecocks, but last December he made the decision to commit to Clemson. The culture that has been cultivated inside the program was enough to win him over.

“The coaching staff, the whole team,” Henderson said. “Man, that family atmosphere. Everything’s about family when you go to Clemson and that’s that’s all I need.”

With the win, BHP moves to 3-0 on the season. Next week they will go on the road to face a Westside team that won a state title at the 4A level last season.

With the Bears having come up just one game short of an appearance in the 3A state title game themselves a season ago, Henderson and his teammates will be more than motivated to prove they can step up a classification and play with one of the best team’s in the state. Although, the ultimate goal is getting back to the playoffs and finishing what they started last year.

“The sky’s the limit for us,” Henderson added. “All we got to do is keep coming in every day, keep going to work, and me and my teammates will be good.”
