The third suspect in the shooting death of an aspiring rapper learned his sentence Monday.

Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Jaiza Page ordered 25-year-old Kyson Murphy to serve a sentence of 12 to 16½ years in prison.

Murphy, 25, had pleaded guilty in August 2021 to involuntary manslaughter and robbery in connection with the May 20, 2021, robbery and fatal shooting of 26-year-old Courtney Bruce, who went by the moniker "Boog the Bandit."

Two other men, Sincere McIntyre, and Jumada Williams, pleaded guilty and were sentenced in July .

McIntyre, 20, received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 18 years. Williams, 22, received a sentence of 20 to 25½ years in prison.

On the day of the shooting, Bruce and a 25-year-old man had gone to the 3700 block of Dort Place, on the city's East Side, to meet a person for what they thought might be a drug deal and a rap video production, Franklin County Assistant Prosecutor Leigh Bayer said.

Murphy had lured them to the location, Bayer said, but the intent was to rob the pair. The man with Bruce had cash, jewelry and a cellphone stolen. Bruce resisted the robbery, Bayer said, and that's when McIntyre shot her. She was also robbed of about $13,000 in cash.

Bayer said Murphy helped police and prosecutors identify and press charges against McIntyre and Williams.

The man with Bruce drove her to Mount Carmel East hospital after she was shot, leaving her at the entrance, Bayer said. Bruce died a short time later.

Bruce had released multiple songs which were gaining traction online in the months prior to her death.
