Shortly after Saturday’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid shared an unfortunate update on one of the team’s bigger offseason acquisitions, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Following the game, Reid announced that Brown had been hospitalized with a similar injury to one that cost then-Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill four games in 2019.

“#Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation tonight against the Jaguars and is currently in the hospital,” Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team shared on X (formerly Twitter) . “HC Andy Reid compared it to Tyreek Hill’s shoulder injury from 2019, which caused him to miss four games.”

Brown played Saturday’s game in Jacksonville, catching one pass for 11 yards.

His reception seemed to be where Brown got hurt.

What exactly is a sternoclavicular joint dislocation? The National Library of Medicine describes it as follows:

“Sternoclavicular dislocation refers to complete rupture of all the sternoclavicular and costoclavicular ligaments. This occurs from a single, well-defined trauma most commonly a motor vehicle accident or collision sport such as rugby or American football. The force is typically indirect on the shoulder.”

The Chiefs signed Brown in the offseason in hopes of sparking his career after two underwhelming seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. In 2023, Brown caught 51 passes for 574 yards with four touchdown receptions.
