Detroit Lions offensive tackle Connor Galvin tore an MCL in Thursday night's preseason loss to the New York Giants and will require season-ended surgery, ESPN reported Friday. Galvin, 24, got rolled up on during a run by teammate Jake Funk in the fourth quarter and left the field on a cart. A two-time All-Big 12 first-team selection at Baylor, and the conference's offensive lineman of the year in 2021, Galvin signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent most of the season on the practice squad and played in one game. Galvin was competing for a reserve role this season. Lions reserve quarterback Hendon Hooker also played in the 14-3 loss in New York for his first game in 21 months after tearing the ACL in his left knee while in college at Tennessee. However, he left after 19 plays because of a concussion. "Yeah, he got a concussion, so he's obviously in the protocol and he'll be evaluated," Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game. "I don't know how long it's going to be. I know he got his bell rung, so that's what that was. Obviously, we would have loved to have gotten more time with him, but that's one of those things that happens. One of his runs there he must have gotten it." Hooker, 26, was 5-of-9 passing for 36 yards and ran four times for 34 yards. The Lions selected Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Lions defensive lineman David Bada sustained an Achilles injury during the game, Campbell said. Detroit signed free agent Bada, 29, on July 25. --Field Level Media
