    Hey Coshocton County: Here’s what you need to know to start your week

    COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Engineer's Office has announced County Road 22 in Monroe and Jefferson townships will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Aug. 19 to 22 from County Road 401 to Township Road 341 for culvert replacements.

    COSHOCTON − The City of Coshocton has announced Shelly Company will have Spitler Drive closed Aug. 20 to 22 to remove existing material and complete cement stabilization in the area. Those on Ohio 16 will not have access to Spitler Drive and those on Spitler Drive will not have access to Ohio 16. Drivers will need to use Ohio 541 from Ohio 16 to access Spitler Drive during the period.

    COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Opportunity Schools governing board will meet at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Warehouse Restaurant, 400 N. Whitewoman St. It will include a public hearing for federal programs.

    COSHOCTON − Emily Marrison of Ohio State University Extension of Coshocton County will be available to answer questions regarding food preservation during the Coshocton Farmers Market from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Skip's Landing. She will have resources about canning, freezing, dehydrating, fermenting, freeze drying and more. Additionally, Marrison will be able to provide free pressure canner dial gauge testing.

    WALNUT CREEK − The 10th annual Ohio East Operation Christmas Child Dinner will offer dinner at noon and 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Carlisle Inn, 4949 Walnut St., Walnut Creek. Register by calling Esther Troyer at 330-204-1502 or Malinda Baker at 740-502-0227. Guest speaker will be former shoebox recipient Mariya Tatarin of Ukraine.

    PLAINFIELD − An annual chicken barbecue and Shades of the Past car show will be Aug. 24 at Plainfield United Methodist Church, 101 Church St. Car show registration starts at 3 p.m. with the show starting at 5 p.m. and awards at 7 p.m. The chicken barbecue, which is carryout only, starts at 4:30 p.m. for $12. Served will be half a chicken, potato salad, roll, brownie and beverage.

    COSHOCTON − Genesis Coshocton Medical Center will present Power House on Cruise on Main Aug. 24 on the Coshocton Court Square. A live band starts at 4:30 p.m. with cruising up and down the street at 6 p.m. There will also be vendors, food trucks, car show and bounce house. A light show will be 8:30 to 10 p.m. of the courthouse. Proceeds benefit the courthouse illumination project.

    PLAINFIELD − The last Plainfield School reunion will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Schumaker Picnic Shelter, 52441 County Road 16, West Lafayette. Doors open at noon. The program will be honoring previous graduates with all attendees able to share their most important memory of attending Plainfield School. Reservations for the meal by Schumaker Farms is due by Sept. 5 by calling Carol at 740-622-1922, or submitting the received reservation letter.

    BALTIMORE − Coshocton native Michelle Stitzlein, now of Baltimore, was recently awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant for 2023 to 2024. It was one of 97 grants awarded internationally. The foundation's mission is to advance the work of visual artists and have supported nearly 5,000 artists with $85 million total across 79 countries to-date. Stitzlein's works use repurposed materials, collected primarily from central Ohio residents and likely diverted from county landfills. Pieces can be seen in the collections of COSI in Columbus, Brukner Nature Center in Troy and Dayton Metro-Main and Dayton Metro-Huber Heights library locations.

    COLUMBUS − Pearl Valley Cheese of Fresno took top honors recently at the Ohio State Fair Cheese Contest. It's Swiss was overall grand champion with Guggisberg Cheese of Millersburg taking reserve champion for its Ziller.

    Pearl Valley earned first and second place in the Swiss class with Guggisberg coming in third. Guggisberg took first in the other Swiss category for its Ziller and second place for its rind Swiss. Pearl Valley was third for its lacey baby Swiss.

    Pearl Valley also placed third in the non-spicy open class for its marble cheese and in the spicy open class category won second place for its salsa jack and third place for its chipotle.

    COSHOCTON − Frontier Power and Frontier Propane recently held is annual meeting with approximately 700 members and guests in attendance. Incumbent Bill Daugherty won another term representing District A, which includes Coshocton County. He was also named to the board of trustees at-large, replacing Mark Wills after 16 years of service.
