LMPD investigates police shooting in Southern Louisville near Fairdale

Louisville Metro Police is conducting a “critical investigation” after a police shooting outside a Walmart pharmacy Wednesday afternoon near Fairdale, officials confirmed.

LMPD Interim Chief Paul Humphrey , said at around 12:15 p.m., an armed suspect was shot by an officer after attempting to carjack a woman in the pharmacy drive-thru.

Officials said the incident follows a vehicle chase by Kentucky State Police on the Gene Snyder Freeway. The vehicle exited onto New Cut Road before colliding with another vehicle.

KSP troopers arrested the driver but the passenger ran into a crowded Walmart nearby.

The driver, Jeremy Bozarth, was taken to Louisville Metro Connections, Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesperson Scotty Sharp told the Courier Journal.

When officers found the suspect — who was allegedly armed — in the front seat of a woman's vehicle in the drive-thru pharmacy line. He was shot multiple times through the window and his injuries are non-life threatening. The woman driving the vehicle was not injured.

Police have not named that suspect.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting LMPD in the investigation.

LMPD posted to X, formerly Twitter, at 1:02 p.m. encouraging locals to avoid the area of Outer Loop and New Cut Road near the Fairdale neighborhood in Southern Louisville. As of 4 p.m., police had blocked off the area where the shooting occurred. Multiple entrances to the Walmart were also blocked by LMPD.
