Are Kentuckians generous?

A new study released by SmartAsset , a financial technology company, recently looked at how generous Kentuckians are based on charitable contributions.

A county-by-county breakdown showed there are some truly generous people in Kentucky. SmartAsset found Oldham County ranked first in the state for its generosity, securing the top spot for two consecutive years .

"Oldham County consistently outpaces the statewide and national averages in both, contributions as a percentage of income and the percentage of returns itemizing contributions," Steve Sabato, a spokesperson for SmartAsset said.

As for Jefferson County, last year it placed fifth, but this year the county dropped one spot to sixth.

"All things considered, [Jefferson County] remains a consistently high-performing county within the state in this study," Sabato said.

The study methodology utilized 2023 tax return data to determine the amount of money people donate as a percentage of their net income and the proportion of people who made charitable donations.
