This weekend, the 138th installment of the Labor Day Celebration takes place in Princeton, Indiana.

It's an event that dates to 1886, so old that it pre-dates Labor Day's designation as a national holiday. It's become a late-summer staple in the Tri-State with its carnival rides, grandstand events and holiday parade.

Here are a few things to know about this year's Labor Day Celebration.

When and where is the Labor Day Celebration?

This year's event takes place at the Gibson County Fairgrounds in Princeton. Events run Friday through Monday.

Carnival rides open at 5 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

    Is there an admission cost?

It's free to get into the celebration, and the carnival rides also are free.

There are several events that include an admission charge, including:

    • Garden tractor pulls on Friday at 6 p.m. (tickets range from $10 to $15).
    • Scrapper Race on Saturday at 6 p.m. (tickets range from $10 to $15).
    • Demolition derby on Sunday at 6 p.m. (tickets range from $10 to $15).

When and where is the Labor Day parade?

The annual parade starts at 9 a.m. Monday. It's a 1.25-mile route that starts at the intersection of Broadway and Main streets in Princeton and winds through town and out to the fairgrounds.

According to a lineup on the Labor Day Celebration website, this year's parade has more than 40 entrants, ranging from the Princeton Police Department to the Hadi Shriners.
