    Defiance County common pleas

    John Black, 52, Stryker (CCNO), appeared for sentencing on a charge of attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony. He was given a 30-month prison term with credit for 707 days served in jail while his case was pending. According to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office, Black attempted to cause serious physical harm to another person at his residence in Sherwood in September 2021.

    George Mack, 35, Toledo, appeared for sentencing on a charge of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, and aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), each a fifth-degree felony. He was placed on community control for two years with conditions, including that $178 previously seized by Defiance Police Department be forfeited and applied to the defendant’s court costs.

    Nathan Rhonehouse, 40, 1516 Terrawenda Drive, appeared for sentencing on a charge of strangulation, a fourth-degree felony; and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was placed on three years community control with conditions, including that he complete a residential treatment facility program. On May 1, 2023 at his residence, he caused, or created, a substantial risk of physical harm to a person he was dating by means of strangulation or suffocation. Rhonehouse also allegedly caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to a family or household member during the aforementioned incident.

    Matthew Hammon, 48, Bryan, appeared for sentencing on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and was placed on community control for two years.

    Matthew Boettcher, 46, Waterloo, Ind., pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and was placed on community control for two years.

    Troy Braatz, 22, Toledo, pleaded guilty to attempted engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a third-degree felony; two counts of theft, one a fifth-degree felony, the other a first-degree misdemeanor. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 10.

    Lesley Quarles, 43, Bryan, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 9.

    Eddie Lewis, 46, Holgate, pleaded no contest to aggravated possession of drugs, and possession of cocaine, each a fifth-degree felony, and was found guilty. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 13.

    Clinton Vanscoder, 20, Holgate, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, a third-degree felony. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 6.

    James Velasquez, 25, 609 Grover Ave., pleaded guilty to four counts of importuning, each a fifth-degree felony, and to a specification for forfeiture of property. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 1.

    Thomas Baldwin, 42, 1100 Wilhelm St., pleaded guilty to failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was set for May 14.

    Chad Johnson, 52, Bryan, pleaded not guilty to two counts of theft, each a fifth-degree felony. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 11 and he was given a personal-recognizance bond.

    Tristan Liechty, 27, Stryker (CCNO), pleaded not guilty to theft, a fifth-degree felony. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Friday, and bond was set at $25,000 with a 10% allowance provision.

    Garrett Shreve, 23, Holgate, pleaded not guilty to improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled and he was given a personal-recognizance bond.

    Shanda Bullinger, 45, Paulding, pleaded not guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony; and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor. A pre-trial was scheduled for April 11 and she was given a personal-recognizance bond.

    Lee Mathys, 79, 1609 E. Second St., pleaded not guilty to two counts of permitting drug abuse, one a fifth-degree felony, the other a first-degree misdemeanor. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 22 and he was given a personal-recognizance bond.

    Nicole Wade, 39, Stryker (CCNO) pleaded not guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 22 and bond was set at $50,000 with a 10% allowance provision.
