BARCO — The Currituck County High School girls soccer team couldn’t hold on to a 1-0 halftime lead against Northeastern Coastal Conference-leading Manteo and ended up falling to the visitors 4-2 on Monday afternoon.

Lisa Phillips scored the opening goal of the game for Currituck with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. It gave the Knights a 1-0 lead and would be the only goal scored by either team in the first half.

Manteo tied the game with 24 minutes remaining in the second half on a Kiley Eckard goal. The score remained tied 1-1 until Manteo’s Kenzie Flynn found the back of the net to give the Redskins a 2-1 lead.

A minute later, Flynn found the back of the net again to push Manteo’s lead to 3-1.

Just when it looked like the game was out of reach, Phillips got on the scoreboard again for Currituck, narrowing Manteo’s edge to 3-2.

The Knights kept battling, but CC Lowe of Manteo scored a goal with just six minutes remaining to increase the Redskins’ lead to 4-2. The score remained that way until the final whistle blew.

The loss was the second in NCC play for the Knights, both at the hands of Manteo. Currituck is now 6-2 in NCC play and 11-5 overall. The Redskins moved to 11-0-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play.

In other girls’ soccer on Monday, Camden was blanked by First Flight 3-0 and John A. Holmes defeated Pasquotank High School 10-2.
