CAMBRIDGE − Kenli Norman from Meadowbrook High School will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Each year, the Guernsey County Retired Teachers Association awards a scholarship to a county senior entering the field of education. The scholarship is available to students attending Buckeye Trail, Cambridge, John Glenn and Meadowbrook high schools as long as they are residents of Guernsey County and plan to pursue a teaching degree.

Kenli thought seriously about what profession she would like to pursue. “I knew that my 'calling' would reveal itself to be a job that I would greet with avidity on a daily basis for the rest of my career, not something that made me dread my work week.”

While it took her nearly her entire high school years to determine, she realized the answer had been in front of her the whole time. “There is no job I want more than to be a teacher, high school English Language Arts specifically.”

During her high school years, Kenli excelled in both academics and sports. Academically, she has been involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Blood Drive Committee, MVL Leadership and DECA. In the world of sports, Kenli has been active in basketball, track, and cross country. She is the daughter of Tony and Chrissy Norman.

Kenli has chosen to attend Ohio University to receive her degree in education. She feels that calling teaching a job would be an injustice. “If my vocation entails the teaching and comprehension of reading and writing, along with being a support system for adolescents navigating one of the most vexatious phases of life, then I'll never really work a day in my life.”
