    Storms possible as dangerous heat remains in Cambridge-area forecasts

    Cambridge's parched plant life may have something to look forward to this week.

    A chance of thunderstorms and rain has slipped into the forecast Wednesday and every day through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

    There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Wednesday with a 20% chance of precipitation. Wednesday night, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight with a 40% chance of precipitation. Between a quarter- and a half-inch of rain could come down Wednesday night.

    Here's what to expect the rest of the week, according to NWS .

    Cambridge weather for the rest of August

    • Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Sunny and hot, with a high near 94. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
    • Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Mostly clear during the early evening, then becoming mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
    • Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
    • Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
    • Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Friday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
    • Saturday: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8am. High near 84. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
    • Saturday night: Showers before 8pm. Low around 63. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

    What is the Columbus forecast for the Ohio State football home opener?

    • Saturday : Showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high near 85. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
