    Fire investigation concludes for McKenzie Metals

    BROOKHAVEN — One of two July state fire investigations concluded this week. State Fire Marshal’s Office released its findings Wednesday morning.

    According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the cause of a fire at McKenzie Metals on Sawmill Lane could not be determined. On the night of July 14, McKenzie Metals suffered a fire destroying the office building and scale house. The business is located at 979 Sawmill Lane NE.

    A few hours later in the early morning hours of July 15, a home on Old St. John burned. No one was injured in the fire but the home was a complete loss. The Mississippi State Fire Marshal Office said the case is still under investigation.

    As previously reported by The Daily Leader, fire investigations are methodical and sometimes lengthy.

    Halbert Heights Arson

    A man is still wanted for arson in connection to a fire on Halbert Heights Road in Brookhaven. Evidence on scene pointed towards the fire being intentionally set. Brookhaven Fire Department was able to save the structure and it did not suffer any significant damage.

    Brookhaven Police Department is working on investigating the case and locating the suspect Johnny Potts in connection with charges of arson. If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Johnny Potts please contact the Brookhaven Police Department.
