A Lenoir County man was charged with driving while impaired after he failed to stop at a stop sign in Greene County, seriously injuring another motorist who remains hospitalized.

The State Highway Patrol in Wilson and Greene counties said that at 11:28 a.m. Aug. 9, a vehicle driven by Juan Jimenez-Flores, 36, of La Grange was travelling on Davis Road when he ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Oakdale Road. That is a rural residential area near U.S. 13 west of Snow Hill.

Jimenez-Flores struck a vehicle driven by Daniel Rouse, 61, of Seven Springs. His vehicle then spun around and collided with a third vehicle driven by Tammy Howell of Snow Hill, which was also on Oakdale Road, and then careened into a ditch where it came to an uncontrolled stop.

Rouse’s vehicle came to a stop in the road and Howell’s came to a stop on the roadside, the State Highway Patrol said.

Rouse was transported to ECU Health Medical Center where on Monday a spokesperson said he remained in critical condition.

Jimenez-Flores has been charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and driving while impaired.
