A Greenville man was arrested Monday morning after police said he choked and beat his mother at their Rollins Drive home.

An incident report from the Greenville Police Department said officers responded about 7:03 a.m. to a domestic disturbance at 200 Rollins Drive, near Greenville's Convention District and the intersection of Memorial Drive with Greenville Boulevard.

On the scene officers discovered that a resident of the home, Robert Zachery Thomas, 34, had allegedly choked his mother, 70, and repeatedly punched her, a spokeswoman for the department said.

Thomas was arrested on the spot and charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault by strangulation. He was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center where he remains under a $225,000 secured bond.

Thomas has a prior felony conviction for stalking from a Pitt County incident on Nov. 30, 2019.
