A return to above-average temperatures on Friday will dry out metro Denver and the Front Range for a couple of days before a short-lived monsoonal flow starts back up again for a couple of days next week.

Denver residents can expect sunny skies Friday, with a high near 94, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Light and variable winds will blow, becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

"There's a slim possibility (~15% chance) of a weak thunderstorm in the far northeast plains this afternoon," the NWS said. "Most areas will also see elevated fire weather conditions given warm and dry conditions, and locally breezy west winds."

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 62. North northwest winds to blow between 5 to 7 mph, becoming south southeast in the evening.

Much of the same weather on Saturday and Sunday with highs into the mid-90s, however a chance of rain and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon exists.

"Hot and mostly dry conditions are forecast for Saturday, with near record highs possible across the Denver metro," the NWS said. "Increasing moisture on Sunday into next week will lead to daily chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms, especially across the Front Range mountains and foothills."

Here is the 4-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 96. South southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm.

Sunday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable.

Monday: A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 91.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Sunny, with a high near 93.
