The Cinemark 20 movie theater at Jordan Creek Town Center may remain closed for a few more days after a power transformer blew Aug. 9.

KCCI-TV reported that the transformer failed the night of Aug. 10 and left hundreds of moviegoers in the dark. Jordan Creek General Manager Randy Tennison said Thursday that Cinemark was still working to get two temporary generators up and running because "this repair is more significant than they originally thought."

Tennison did not say when the theater may reopen. The theater's website on Thursday afternoon acknowledged the temporary closure, but provided no details.

Marking its 20th holiday season, the Des Moines metro's premier mall defies the odds

"We hope to have them up and running in the next few days using the temporary generators," Tennison said.

The theater opened at the same time as the mall 20 years ago Aug. 4. In 2006, it hosted the premiere of "Superman Returns," starring Norwalk native Brandon Routh.
