    Iowa high school football scores: IHSAA statewide updates from Week 2

    It's Week 2 of the Iowa high school football season, with several massive rivalry games on the IHSAA schedule happening around the state tonight.

    Check out the latest updates from around the state below in this live blog. It will update throughout the night until all the games are wrapped up.

    10:41 Cedar Rapids Xavier takes down Williamsburg

    In a battle of giants, Xavier gets the win, 29-27.

    10:40 Bondurant Farrar goes down, Grinnell pulls upset

    10:27 Hoover football falls to Oskaloosa

    Huskies fall to 0-2. Oskaloosa moves to 1-1.

    10:25 Coming down to the wire for Xavier and Williamsburg

    10:17 Cedar Falls takes down Johnston

    It took three overtime to figure it out, but a CF touchdown from half a yard out in the third overtime period sealed the deal.

    Tigers take down Johnston, 37-34.

    10:15 Iowa City West takes down Urbandale

    The Trojans get their first win of the season, taking down Urbandale, 34-38.

    J-Hawks drop to 0-2 on the season, West moves to 1-1.

    10:10 Will Nuss to tie things up for Johnston

    Johnston ties things up, forcing a third OT, on the first play of double OT. QB Will Nuss finds Tino Daye from 10 yards out to tie things up, 31-31.

    Johnston on the ball to start triple OT.

    10:07 Cedar Falls grabs a TD in overtime

    Johnston will need a TD and PAT in order to extend it to a third OT.

    10:04 Cedar Falls converts on FG in OT

    The Tigers can’t punch it in the endzone, but tie things up with a field goal to make it 24-24.

    On to double OT! Cedar Falls will have the ball to start.

    Dragons take a 24-21 lead over Cedar Falls. Johnston failed to find the endzone on their offensive possession but settle for a short kick. Tigers get the ball now. A CF touchdown wins the game, a FG sends it to double OT. A stop means a Johnston win.

    We’ve got another big game headed to OT out in Johnston. This one’s tied up at 21-21. Follow our Alyssa Herte l, who is on the ground providing updates.

    9:58 Ankeny drops game to Southeast Polk

    In a battle between two elite programs, who both just happened to start the season 0-1, the Hawks fall further into a hole with a 21-13 Rams win.

    Southeast Polk, the three-time defending champions, are now 1-1 while Ankeny sits at 0-2 after a season-opening loss to Centennial.

    The Dragons and CF are all tied up at 21 with time ticking down. CF has the ball and a chance to win the game.

    A new school record from Eddie Johnson, who posted five total touchdowns, helped the Spartans cruise past the Clippers, 42-14.

    9:35 Liberty earns Iowa City sweep

    After taking down Iowa City West last week, the Lightning cruise over City High, 49-20.

    Big statement for Liberty for first-year head coach and ex-NFL tight end Scott Chandler.

    9:30 Waukee earns rivalry win over Waukee Northwest

    It was tighter than the score indicated, but the Warriors ended up topping Northwest, 40-29.

    9:26 Dowling takes down Valley in OT

    The Maroons earned a 26-23 win over rival Valley in OT. Ian Middleton got his third score of the night on fourth-and-goal from the 1 in the extra period.

    Dowling moves to 2-0, Valley falls to 1-1.

    9:20 Valley settles for a FG

    In HS overtime, each team gets the ball at the 10-yard line. Tigers go on offense first and have to settle for a 22-yard FG.

    Valley up 23-20. If Dowling scores a TD, Maroons win. Valley gets a stop? Tigers win.

    9:16 Cedar Falls back and Johnston battle

    After the Dragons took the lead, CF drove right back down the field to go up again, 21-14, late in the third.

    Johnston comes right back and ties it all up at 21 on the next drive, though. Under a minute to go in the third.

    9:12 Iowa City Liberty up two scores with under 10 to play

    9:10 Pleasant Valley still up on Kennedy

    9:05 Waukee, Waukee Northwest is chaotic

    It seems like every five seconds there's another scoring play. Waukee re-takes the lead on a Grant Gammell run from about midfield. The senior ran through about three or four tackles to find paydirt.

    9:02 Dowling with the ball and a chance to tie

    The Maroons, who are currently down 20-17 to Valley, have the ball with time running down. Just under 6 minutes to play. A field goal ties the game, touchdown will put them in the lead.

    9:00 Huge comeback for Gilbert

    The Tigers, who were down 18-7 at one point, are on top 22-18. Gilbert has the ball back now too, trying to run down the clock and escape with a win.

    8:55 Waukee re-takes lead on Waukee Northwest

    Grant Gammell punches the ball in from 5-yards out to give the Warriors the lead over Northwest. It was all set up by a massive throw-and-catch from Beckett Bakker to Maverick Inman, who grabbed it in double coverage. Inman has had a nice performance against his former team.

    Waukee leads 26-22 after the PAT.

    J-Hawks take the lead back in what has been a see-saw type game.

    8:45 Ankeny in a battle with Southeast Polk

    We're not getting many live updates from this game, but the Rams lead Ankeny, 14-13, in the third quarter.

    Huskies down, 14-7, to Oskaloosa at the break.

    8:35 Waukee Northwest takes lead over Waukee

    Ryan Woodruff bounces a run outside to the right, makes a couple defenders miss and then is off to the races from about 18-yards out.

    Waukee Northwest leads, 22-19 after a successful 2-point attempt.

    8:35 Dallas Center-Grimes gets on the board

    DCG scores for the first time tonight, they're down, 15-7, against Newton.

    Ian Middleton scores his second TD of the night. He's had a nice start to his season after a big game against Kenndy in Week 1.

    The Trojans, searching for their first winning season since 2020, are leading in the second quarter. Both teams looking for their first win of 2024 tonight.

    Lightning up 28-14 over City High at the break. Sutton Koller and Rettig have had an impressive first 24 minutes of action.

    Warriors hold a slim, 19-14, lead over their crosstown rival at the break.

    Johnston down 14-0 after a second score from Cedar Falls' Davarrion Clark on the night.

    Maroons now down by just one score, 17-10, to Valley after a short field goal right before halftime.

    Looks like it may be a dramatic second half in that one.

    The Jags are cruising now, up 35-0 over Ames just two minutes into the second quarter. An impressive start after a big win over Ankeny last week.

    7:47 Iowa City Liberty offense is firing on all cylinders

    The Lightning are cruising on offense so far, taking a 21-7 lead over City High. Sutton Koller takes a screen pass 34 yards to the end zone. About halfway through the second quarter there.

    7:45 Valley finds paydirt against Dowling again

    Tigers showing why they're the No. 1 team in our rankings after Week 1. Quarterback Drake DeGroote makes a nifty run to outrun defenders and find the end zone.

    Tigers up 17-7 over the Maroons.

    7:42 Waukee pulling away from Northwest

    Outside of a short-field touchdown following a turnover, Waukee has been dominating their rival so far this game. Senior wideout Maverick Inman hauls in a nice throw to add six more points to the score. Inman, who played at Northwest last year, might be the first player in history to score touchdowns for both programs.

    Two missed PATs keep this one closer than it should be, though. Warriors up, 19-7, halfway through the second.

    7:36 Big game in Cedar Rapids tonight

    Two powerhouse programs, Kennedy and Pleasant Valley are going toe-to-toe so far. PV holds a slight lead, 7-6, about halfway through the opening quarter.

    Looks like a thrilling game is shaping up.

    7:34 Iowa City High not going away

    After Liberty took a quick 14-0 lead over their rival, the Little Hawks fight back and go on a long drive to cut the deficit in half. They convert on fourth-and-3 on a trick play to make it 14-7, Liberty.

    Second quarter just started out east.

    7:30 Pick-6 gives Valley the lead over Dowling

    Who else but Jayden McGregory? The clutch playmaker down the stretch during last season's playoff run comes up big again Friday. The junior jumped a route and took it back to the house.

    Valley up, 10-7, over Dowling. This is going to be a fun game.

    7:28 Southeast Polk takes lead over Ankeny

    Holden Hansen takes it in to the endzone himself from a couple yards out. Just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter there.

    Rams up 7-0 over Ankeny.

    7:25 Valley answers, Dowling still on top

    The Tigers get on the board to cut their deficit to four points after a 31-yard field goal splits the uprights.

    Dowling up, 7-3, over Valley at the end of the first quarter.

    7:23 Ankeny Centennial cruising early

    JJ Morgan takes the ball 26 yards to the end zone. PAT is good and the Jags are up 14-0 over Ames, still in the first quarter there.

    7:20 Waukee finds the end zone

    The Warriors strike back after Waukee Northwest took the lead on the previous possession. Beckett Bakker found Evan Jacobson in the middle of the end zone for the score. But a blocked PAT keeps the Wolves in the lead.

    7:17 Iowa City Liberty looking for the citywide sweep

    The Lightning are hoping to be called the kings of Iowa City after taking down Iowa City West last week. They've gotten off to a good start today against City High, marching down the field on the opening drive and ending it in the end zone.

    7:15 Dowling up on Valley early on

    Maroons up 7-0 after a 37-yard run from Ian Middleton. Over halfway through the opening quarter in West Des Moines.

    7:10 Ankeny Centennial strikes first in battle with Ames

    The Jags continue their hot scoring streak from last week, but this time it's through the air. Chase Kluver drops back and hits Kane Brooks from 28-yards out.

    Jags take a 7-0 lead over the Little Cyclones.

    7:05 Waukee Northwest grabs control against Waukee

    In a big rivalry matchup between Waukee and Waukee Northwest, the Wolves grab momentum first.

    The Warriors got the ball to start the game, but coughed it up deep in their own territory and the Wolves' defense scooped it up, giving Northwest the ball inside the 10.

    On third-and-goal, Mack Heitland took it in himself from a yard out to get on the board. Waukee Northwest up 7-0 early on in this one.

    7:03 First touchdown of the night?

    Clarinda strikes fast and, as far as we can tell, finds the end zone for the first score across Iowa tonight. It was a 95-yard kickoff return for the score. Clarinda up 8-0 over Red Oak.
