AI or Human? AI Detection Tools and How to Avoid Them

    User-posted content

There is no question that AI is changing the writing process. One Google search will render hundreds of AI copywriting tools promising to help you produce copy faster than ever before. Due to the gross misuse of AI, many organizations and clients are firmly against writers using AI to create their content. The result is the implementation of AI detection tools that will red flag copy generated by AI. What does this mean for you as the writer? It means you can quickly get fired by clients and agencies.

Now, in my opinion, this doesn’t seem fair to the writers who want to use AI the way it was designed to be used – as an assistant. This is why I created a guide that teaches you how to avoid AI detection tools and still use AI correctly.

Why Do Clients Not Like AI-Written Articles?

Clients do not like AI-written articles for a few really good reasons. They are:

    · Even though AI chatbots are supposed to create original content, plagiarism and copyright infringement concerns remain.

    · SEO is important to most clients, and AI-generated content can really harm a copy’s ranking on search engines.

    · AI-rendered content lacks human emotion and often has complicated language, making it difficult for readers to understand and engage with it.

    What are AI Detection Tools?

AI detection tools let companies and organizations know when AI has been used to write content, which can mean big trouble for you if you get caught.

    How Do AI Detectors Work?

AI detectors use complex algorithms to check whether the written content is AI-generated or authentically human. Two detection methods:

    1. Linguistic analysis – looks for semantic meaning and repetitions within the copy

    2. Comparative analysis – compares the subject text to other AI-generated texts and notes any similarities

Using the detection methods above, two sets of data are produced for the subject copy:

    · Perplexity

    · Burstiness

Perplexity refers to the probability that a sample can be predicted. The higher the score, the higher the chance that the subject copy is AI-generated. Burstiness, however, refers to the length and complexity of sentences. Humans naturally write sentences of varying lengths and complexity. AI writing tools tend to form sentences of similar structure and complexity. If there is less variation, it is a red flag that AI wrote the content.

    Classic Signs of AI-Generated Content

The first step to avoiding AI detectors is understanding the classic signs of AI written text. Let’s take a closer look at the tell-tale signs.

    Lack of Human Emotions

If it reads like a robot wrote it, then it probably did. Robots are not able to include emotions, opinions, or beliefs. You will only find facts and statistics with a neutral stance in AI-written content. Most copywriting requires the ability to persuade readers, which is beyond the scope of AI writing tools.

    Monotone

Human written text often has multiple tones throughout one piece of content. For instance, the tone is upbeat when promoting the clients’ solution but pessimistic when explaining the problem. AI bots cannot include these nuances in writing. So, you will find that there is only one tone throughout an AI-generated piece of text.

    Repetitive Language

AI-generated copy often uses the same words and phrases over and over throughout one piece of text. The reason is that AI bots are just stringing together pieces of information. They do not have the capability to use synonyms and change up the wording to keep a work of writing interesting.

    Complex Sentences

Content written by AI tends to contain long, complex sentences that stand out to AI detection tools and readers as awkward and clunky. It makes readability difficult and is a classic sign of AI-generated content.

    Tips for Avoiding AI Detectors

Using AI as a tool, or what I like to call an assistant, is okay. But be sure to incorporate these tips into your writing.

    · Rewrite the content – The best step you can take is never to copy and paste AI-generated content. Instead, rewrite the content into your own words, taking the ideas only.

    · Short sentences – Break long, complex sentences into short, easy-to-digest ones.

    · Common vocabulary – AI writing tools tend to use high-level words that are difficult for the average person to understand. Be sure to use common language that most people can understand.

    · Use headings and small paragraphs – Unless prompted to do so, AI will not incorporate headings and render long paragraphs. In the final product, integrate headings and break the text into small sections of no more than a few sentences.

    · Varying sentence structure – Diversify the length and composition of sentences.

    · Add human emotion – Whether it’s humor, anger, distress, etc., be sure to add appropriate human emotion that AI is not able to contribute.

AI tools are meant to be used as an assistant, and each output requires heavy editing on your part. The tips above will help you pass AI detection tools, rank higher on search engines, and please your clients.
