Several players are expected to be suspended following a fight on the football field between Central and Garza on Friday night.

The Central Unified School District and Central Section Office are still reviewing footage from the incident, but the Central Section office said there will be several students suspended for upcoming games.

The referees signaled the end of the Friday game early because of a fight that happened on the field after a Guardians player allegedly ripped off a Grizzlies player helmet and hit him with it.

That led to a fight and subsequently the end of the game with 10 minutes remaining.

It’s unknown which players were involved, but a video circulated on social media shows one player ripping another player’s helmet off his head and swinging it at him.

The Central Section Office said “there are state bylaws that will be applied for the ejections. Suspensions could range from 1-6 games.”

Central Unified released a statement Monday afternoon saying “while we cannot disclose specific disciplinary actions involving our students, we can provide steps that are being taken by our administration and in collaboration with our Central Section CIF Commissioner.”

Central Unified said they will be reviewing video footage and that the administration will “thoroughly investigate the incident, including gathering statements from all involved students and staff.”
