Gardner's National Night Out canceled ... again: Here's why

The rescheduled 11th National Night Out event in Gardner has been canceled due to expected inclement weather on Thursday.

The annual event, which is billed as public safety-themed community gathering, was originally scheduled to take place at Gardner High School on Aug. 8 but was rained out.

The rescheduled event, which was to take place on Aug. 15 at Monument Park, was also canceled by organizers, according to a Facebook post by the Gardner Community Action Team.

"We have decided to cancel the event due to the chance of inclement weather (Thursday) afternoon," the post read. "There was a lot of work and resources put into trying to make this event happen (twice), but I guess Mother Nature was not going to cooperate this year."

A planned resource fair and free cookout will take place at Gardner City Hall in October, according to organizers. Full details about the event will be posted soon.
