    Why will I love it?
Native to the tropical rainforests of south-east Asia, the footstool palm ( Livistona rotundifolia ) is a big-personality houseplant with large, glossy leaves that almost form a perfect circle. It is slow-growing, so would make a manageable and long-lasting addition to your collection.

    Light or shade?
This versatile palm enjoys well-lit environments but can tolerate some shade.

    Where should I put it?
Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, which can scorch its delicate leaves. Opt for a spot near a north- or east-facing window that receives filtered light throughout the day.

How do I keep it alive?
Keep the compost moist, watering twice a week during summer and whenever the top inch of soil dries out in winter. Mist the leaves regularly and place the pot on a wet pebble tray to create the humid microclimate this plant prefers. Keep temperatures above 13C.

    Did you know?
The species name, rotundifolia , comes from the Latin words rotundus (rounded) and “ folium ” (leaf). Historically, the leaves were put to practical uses, such as wrapping food and thatching material.
