    During departmental updates at the regular meeting, Burnet County Chief Deputy Alan Trevino reported all county jail staff positions are filled.

    “We are full,” Trevino told the commissioners. “We have zero openings at the jail for staff. And, 100% of our staff is certified."

    Also, Trevino expressed concern related to overtime pay earned by sheriff's office dispatch and jail staffers during the April 8 total solar eclipse.

    In turn, County Judge James Oakley recommended Trevino confer with County Auditor Karin Smith to discuss county budget allotments and line items to settle the concern.

    County Finance

    During her report, County Treasurer Karrie Crownover indicated the county total cash and investment balance showed more than $69 million through the second quarter of the Fiscal Year 2024, ending March 31.

    In other business, the commissioners:

    • Accepted a donation of two tables and 28 chairs for the Sheriff’s Of- fice from the Capital Area Council of Governments;

    • Approved Precinct 2 Roads & Bridges tax notes at $362,000 for the purchase of one 2024 John Deere 670G motor grader from RDO Equipment in Pflugerville;

    • Authorized Pct. 4 Constable Millicent “Missy” Bindseil to participate in the Texas Law En- forcement Support Office program;

    • Acknowledged receipt of statements from Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) Board President Kevin Naumann, MFISD Superintendent Jeff Gasaway and Cassandra Dorval, advanced practice registered nurse; each recommending the re-appointment of Dr. Jules Madrigal as the Burnet County Health Authority;

    • Accepted from Meghan Inyang a donation of exercise equipment for the county jail; • Approved the final plat for RR 322, a subdivision of 14 lots on more than 114 acres at 642 CR 322;

    • Approved the preliminary plat for Hollingsworth Business Park, a subdivision of five lots on more than 17 acres at 9930 East Texas 71;

    • Agreed to apply to the Mitte Foundation for a grant of more than $60,000 for additions to the Bertram Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library in Bertram, 170 S. Gabriel; and

    • Agreed to apply for a grant from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission to assist the North Hill Country Public Defender Office.

    Before the meeting began, Oakley held a moment of silence for Texas AgriLife Extension administrator Marty Gibbs, who lost his son recently to an automobile accident. Also, Pct. 3 Commissioner Billy Wall asked attendees to pray for Pct. 3 Foreman Luke Deleon and his brother who recently suffered a massive stroke.
