Alison Brie has nabbed the key villain role of Evil-Lyn in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action take on Masters of the Universe .

The actress, currently seen on Peacock’s thriller limited series Apples Never Fall , joins Nicholas Galitzine ( The Idea of You ) and Camila Mendes in the adaptation of the popular toy brand first introduced in the 1980s. Galitzine leads the series as He-Man, while Mendes is on the call sheet for the role of Teela , the captain of the royal guard and possible romantic interest.

In the director’s chair is the founder of stop-motion powerhouse Laika, Travis Knight, who helmed the company’s Kubo and the Two Strings . Masters of the Universe has been in development for around two decades, but now finally seems to be approaching a start of production.

Plot details are being kept in the box, but the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.

Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s second-in-command and uses a wand with a crystal orb to practice the dark arts. Meg Foster portrayed the character in the 1987 live-action movie.

The screenplay is by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham, and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee.

Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the feature that is to be released in theaters worldwide June 5, 2026.

The casting in a big-budget IP fantasy is a change of pace for Brie, who is known for her comedy and dramatic work in rom-coms and on television. She earned notice for her roles on Netflix series GLOW , cult comedy Community and AMC’s Mad Men . She recently starred in romancer Somebody That I Used to Know, which she co-wrote, and executive produced with husband Dave Franco, and appeared in the Oscar-winning drama Promising Young Woman .

Brie is repped by WME and Rise Management.
