A Tory councillor’s wife has been remanded in custody on charges of stirring up racial hatred as dozens of anti-racist rallies take place across the country.

Lucy Connolly, 41, was refused bail and will appear at Northampton Crown Court on Monday after she was charged with publishing written material to stir up racial hatred.

She is accused of encouraging social media users to “set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b*******” as far-right violence swept the country last week.

Other people caught up in the protests include a 42-year-old scaffolder who admitted possessing a knuckle-duster during a demonstration in Southampton.

Meanwhile, up to 22 anti-racist demonstrations are taking place in towns and cities including Portsmouth, Newcastle, Manchester , Oxford and Cardiff today.

So far, 741 people have been arrested for offences ranging from violent disorder to theft after far-right riots swept the country following a stabbing attack in Southport on 29 July.

It comes as the family of six-year-old Bebe King , who died after being stabbed in Southport , revealed her eldest sister witnessed the attack as escaped.

They said they are “shattered” and their hearts are broken “beyond repair” at the loss of Bebe.
