Izakaya Nana wants to put on a show for you and your friends, with beer towers, sake flights, and strips of salmon hung over an open flame. And it works. The Flushing restaurant looks like an indoor village, complete with a town square and a bar under a massive golden tree. You’re mostly here for the ambiance, but once you get seated in your own semi-private nook, there’s plenty of solid Japanese food to keep you occupied. The dragon balls—sushi formed into golf ball-sized spheres—are a good time, and the lightly battered karaage will disappear in a matter of seconds. So bring a group, get two orders, and add a yakitori sampler. If you spend $120, you can spin the wheel up front for a chance to win prizes. (We got a beer tower.)
