Curry Mee

Then investigate Curry Mee, a casual Malaysian place on 5th Avenue serving creamy, coconutty curry chicken mee you’ll crave every time you put your pajamas on. In addition to offering reliably good takeout, the restaurant is also useful for a low-key dinner in the neighborhood when you want to sit in a backyard and drink a steamy green tea or a $20 bucket of beer. We usually go for the soft and shiny roti canai, and then the curry chicken mee, plus the shatteringly crisp, bone-in duck in green curry. But check out the daily specials on the chalkboard for stuff like sambal mussels, too.

We’d order this just for the rich coconut rice it comes with. But the crunchy cucumbers, thick curry, and salty peanuts are nice additions.

Curry Chicken Mee

A creamy, coconut broth full of tender pieces of chicken, hunks of soft potato, and noodles. You can choose between egg and rice noodles, but we go for the bouncy egg noodles every time. This will become a part of your regular soup rotation because it’s great, but also because, for $12.95, it feels like a steal for the neighborhood.

Duck Curry

A big pile of bone-in duck, with skin so crispy that even in a pool of green curry, it retains a satisfying crunch.
