Police to Hold 9:30 p.m. Press Conference on Search for Missing Manassas Park Woman

Manassas Park police will hold a press conference at 9:30 p.m. tonight regarding the ongoing search for Mamta Kafle, a 28-year-old mother and nurse who has been missing since July 31. The announcement comes after a significant police presence was observed at Kafle's home earlier this evening, intensifying the search efforts.

Kafle, who worked as a nurse at UVA Prince William Medical Center, was last seen by her husband, Naresh Bhatt, on July 31. Bhatt reported her missing on August 5. Since then, the local community, especially friends and members of the Nepalese community, have been actively involved in searching for her, holding nightly demonstrations, and organizing search parties in nearby areas like Blooms Trail Park.

This evening, around 5 p.m., neighbors noticed an increased police presence at the home Kafle shared with Bhatt and their one-year-old daughter, Neema. By 6:50 p.m., the house was surrounded by yellow crime scene tape, and as many as 10 police cars from both Manassas Park and Prince William County were parked outside. This development has heightened concerns about Kafle’s whereabouts and well-being.

Friends of Kafle, including Nadia Navarro and Holly Wirth, have been at the forefront of the search efforts. Navarro, who launched a GoFundMe and coordinated search efforts, expressed her fears for Kafle and her young daughter. "Even if it doesn't come easily, we will get justice for Mamta," Navarro said, emphasizing the community’s resolve.

As the situation unfolds, there is a palpable sense of anxiety among those close to Kafle. Wirth, a former coworker, expressed concern that the case may not have a positive outcome but remains hopeful that the police will uncover the truth.

The press conference tonight is expected to provide further details on the investigation.
