Update: HHI’s 2025 RBC Heritage is back as PGA Tour signature event with Boeing as sponsor

Hilton Head Island’s 2025 RBC Heritage golf tournament will again be an elevated “signature event” of the PGA Tour. This is the third year in a row the tournament will carry this prestigious status.

Regionally, Boeing will also be returning as a presenting sponsor, according to Angela McSwain, the tournament’s marketing and communications director. Earlier reporting in this story raised questions about Boeing’s involvement in the 2025 event. McSwain clarified Thursday afternoon to the newspapers that Boeing, despite not being named in the tour’s announcement, remains a regional and state sponsor.

“Our contract with the PGA Tour and Boeing states that the tournament shall be referred to nationally as the RBC Heritage, but in South Carolina and Georgia and by the host organization (Heritage Classic Foundation) it shall be referred to as the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing,” McSwain wrote in an email.

The tourney will take place April 14 through April 20 of 2025, according to the PGA Tour website . As a signature event, the playing field will be limited to the world’s best players and the champion will receive a much larger purse. That elevated status is carefully chosen — only eight of next year’s 36 regular-season events received the honor — and indicates the Heritage’s venue at the Harbour Town Golf Links is among “the world’s most historic and recognizable courses.”

The RBC Heritage became an “elevated” event for the first time in 2023 , which more than doubled the purse to $20 million and guaranteed appearances by golf’s most popular players. The 2024 tournament, renamed to a signature event, had the most competitive field in Heritage history .

RBC began its stint as the title sponsor of Hilton Head’s annual PGA Tour event in 2012, saving the tournament from an uncertain future after Verizon pulled away from their sponsorship after 2010. The 2011 tournament was played without a title sponsor.

The 2024 Heritage was won by Scottie Scheffler, who coasted to a three-shot victory during a rain-delayed final round on the shores of the Calibogue Sound to earn the event’s signature tartan jacket and a $3.6 million check. He is currently the world’s No. 1 golfer as the tour heads into the FedExCup playoffs on Thursday.
