    July 4 celebrations on tap next week

    As often as not these days, July 4 celebrations in Johnston County aren’t on July 4.

    This year, the celebrations begin as early as June 30 and continue through July 6.

    You’ll find the schedule below by town.

    Archer Lodge — Family Fun Day will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at 14009 Buffalo Road. The celebration will include a parade, a food truck rodeo, live music, vendors and face painting. Fireworks will follow.

    Benson — 5:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, in the Benson Singing Grove, 400 E. Main St. The beach music band Too Much Sylvia will perform. Fireworks will be at 9:15 p.m. off of McLamb Tart Road.

    Clayton — The town’s Square to Square Street Festival will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, on Main Street in downtown. The festival will kick off with a bike parade. Vendors, food trucks, inflatables, axe throwing and games will follow. Free snow cones and watermelon will be available near Horne Square. At 7 p.m., the Fire Department will spray down the young and young at heart at the corner of Church and Main streets. Fireworks will launch at dark from Clayton High School.

    Kenly — Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Kenly 95 Petro, 923 Johnston Parkway.

    Pine Level — Food trucks will arrive around 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Sam Godwin Park, 20 E. Crescent St. Fireworks will follow at dark.

    Selma — The town’s All-American Festival is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Blackstone Plaza, 1124 S. Pollock St. The celebration will feature food trucks, games for children, live entertainment and fireworks.

    Smithfield — Sunday, June 30. The celebration begins with Red, White & Brews from 1 to 6 p.m. in the 100 block of South Third Street. The event will offer food trucks, vendors and craft beer. Afterward, head over to the Neuse River Amphitheater, 150 S. Front St., for live music, games, activities and more food trucks. The fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.
