TULSA Tulsa’s Mayor G.T. Bynum has announced the addition of a new Route 66 roadside attraction at Cry Baby Hill, located at 815 S. Riverside Drive.

The project, titled “Cry Baby Cry,” will feature a 21-foot-tall sculpture designed by Ken Kelleher, an artist recognized for his dynamic work around the globe. This new installation is part of Tulsa’s ongoing efforts to celebrate its historic ties to Route 66 and enhance the visibility of this iconic roadway.

The selection of Kelleher was made through a competitive process, with the city receiving 15 proposals in response to its request for proposals (RFP) earlier this year. The final decision involved input from city officials, neighborhood representatives, the Tulsa Arts Commission and other local stakeholders. The sculpture, expected to be a key attraction, will join Tulsa’s growing list of Route 66 landmarks.

Funded by $250,000 from the 2003 Vision 2025 Route 66 fund and the 2006 3rd Penny Sales Tax, the sculpture is one of three planned investments in the area. In addition to the new roadside attraction, the City has issued RFPs for a commercial development and an interactive experience focused on Route 66, both aimed at further revitalizing the Cry Baby Hill area as Tulsa approaches the Route 66 Centennial.
