A 9-month-old baby was found safe and an Amber Alert in Kansas City is canceled after a mother allegedly abducted and threatened to harm her son Wednesday morning, police said.

Police allege Traci Calvin threatened to kill the child when she left a residence around 9:48 a.m. near East 40th Street and Hedges Avenue in a white 2015 Nissan Rogue.

Officers found Calvin and her vehicle in south Kansas City around 12:45 p.m., Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson with KCPD said in an email. When officers found her, Calvin allegedly told police she gave the child to another family member. Detectives contacted the family member and confirmed the child is safe.

Officers were initially dispatched to a house on a disturbance call just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, Becchina said in an email. The caller was Armon Calvin’s grandmother, Becchina said, who told officers she spoke on the phone with Traci Calvin Wednesday morning.

Traci Calvin made statements over the phone indicating she intended to harm her son, the grandmother allegedly told police. She asked police to respond to the mother’s address on Hedges Avenue.

Juvenile Squad detectives at KCPD later requested an Amber Alert from Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A child endangerment investigation is ongoing, Becchina said. No other information was immediately available.
