A small kit aircraft crashed near a residence in Odessa on Monday morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, troopers responded to the 6800 block of Oakwood Drive in Odessa, where the aircraft had crashed with two occupants on board.

The small plane was a Zenith CH601XLB, described as “an experimental, kit type aircraft,” according to Cpl. Justin Ewing, spokesman with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Ewing said the plane took off from Grain Valley and was traveling to Marshall, Missouri when it crashed. Both people inside the plane were treated and released at the scene.

It is not yet known “exactly what caused them to go down,” Ewing said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident with help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
