    2-year-old struck by car in Corning, transported via helicopter to Rochester for injuries

    A two-year-old child is recovering after being struck by a vehicle in Corning near Relihan Boulevard Tuesday afternoon.

    The child was behind a parked vehicle when the driver began to back up and struck the child around 12:30 p.m., the Corning Police Department said Wednesday.

    Corning Fire and AMR ambulance treated the child at the scene. The child was then transported by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

    Following an investigation into the incident, a 20-year-old Corning man was charged with multiple misdemeanors, including driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlicensed operator and backing unsafely.

    The Corning Police Department was assisted on scene by the Corning City Fire Department, New York State Police and AMR ambulance.
