Madras High School boys and girls tennis players traveled to Prineville Saturday, April 20 to face Sherman County and Irrigon. The smaller schools also faced off against Crook County while in Central Oregon.

The smaller schools didn’t have full teams and only a handful of matches were played. The Buffs top two doubles teams handled Sherman County’s, the only two matches contested, while Irrigon and Madras split four matches, Madras winning the two singles faceoffs and Irrigon taking the doubles matches.

Against Irrigon, the Buffs got a win from Mia Mitchell in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3 over Judit Gomora. The No. 2 singles match was a battle, but the Buffs’ Yashira Chavaro hung on for a 4-6, 6-4, 15-13 win.

In a tough match at No. 1 doubles, the Buffs’ Idaly Romero and Heidi Sedano fell 6-4, 6-4, and Jenny Park and Cypress Tomas lost 6-1, 6-2.

In the doubles matches with Sherman County, Romero and Sedano won a flip-flop match 6-1, 0-6, 10-8, and Park and Tomans prevailed 6-2, 6-0.

The boys squad didn’t send their top players, giving some other athletes court time, and they fell 3-1 to Irrigon.

For the boys, Phillip Arthur won No. 1 singles, beating Alex Salas 7-5, 6-1. But Elijah Pacheco of MHS lost No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1 to Ramiro Arrendondo.

The Buffs doubles teams of Manny Mesina and Brody Leonard lost 6-0, 6-1, and Julian Agustin and Andres Reynoso fell 6-1, 6-2.

The Buffalo boys are schedule to host Sisters at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The girls are at Sisters Wednesday but host the Madras Invitational Saturday, with tennis running most of the day.
