The Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision at 9:25 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, on Greenville Road in Shirley, Maine.

During the crash investigation, the Sheriff's Office determined that a Jeep Cherokee was driving south on Greenville Road when it struck a moose. This caused the Jeep Cherokee to cross the center line and hit a Chevy Suburban, traveling north on Greenville Road.

There were a total of eight people injured in the two vehicles, including 4 adults and 4 children ages 5 to 9. All of the injured were transported to C.A. Dean Hospital. Life Flight took a 5-year-old child to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he is in serious but stable condition.

The Greenville Police and Fire Department and Northern Light C.A. ambulance assisted the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
