Melania Trump has spoken out about the terrifying moment she saw a bullet hit her husband , revealing that she felt her and their son Barron's lives were "on the brink of a devastating change".

The former First Lady and her 18 year old son were not present at the shocking rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday night when 20 year old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Donald Trump. Barron made his first appearance at a Trump rally in Florida, where his father introduced him to the enthusiastic crowd.

The remarkably tall teenager stood up and waved to the thousands of supporters gathered at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami on Tuesday night. Following last night's shooting, Melania released a statement expressing her unwavering love for the Republican presidential candidate and shared her fears for their son, reports the Express US .

"When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realised my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of a devastating change," she said. "I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband."

In her heartfelt statement, Melania also expressed her thoughts for her fellow Americans and extended her support to the families of the victims. She added: "A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald's passion - his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration."

Melania Trump spoke about her husband, former US President Donald Trump, with a rare emotional appeal, stating: "The core facets of my husband's life - his human side - were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times."

Melania, typically an elusive figure in the 2024 Trump campaign, is expected to make an appearance at the upcoming GOP Convention. She further urged Americans to rise above hate, proclaiming: "This morning, ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence. We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends.

"We can realize the world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships, again."

During a recent rally in Florida, Trump began inviting family members including sons Don Jr. and Eric, along with their partners Vanessa and Lara, onto the stage. "You're pretty popular," Trump admitted to Barron, maintaining a light, playful tone by saying "He might be more popular than Don and Eric. Don, we gotta talk about this."

Barron was then seen standing up amidst the crowd of Republican supporters, waving and giving them his thumbs up. Trump, who doesn't quite measure up to his towering 6 foot 7 son, expressed at the rally that it was "good to have" his youngest there. He went on to say: "Welcome to the scene. He had such a nice easy life, now it's changed."
