‘My brother stole my baby name – everyone wants me to forgive him, but I don’t’

A man took to Reddit to vent about a recent situation with his brother.

He said he’s been planning the name for his future baby since he was 12 years old. Now he’s 19, and his older brother, 26, is expecting his first child.

Both he and his brother have unique names , so they’ve wanted to name their children something original as well. The younger brother wants three kids in total, and he wanted to name his first son Riley.

He wrote: “When I first started saying I wanted my first born son's name to be "Riley," my family hated the name and even told me it was stupid. But over time they actually started to like it and it grew on them.

“My parents used to joke around about how they couldn't wait to have a little Riley running around.”

Now that his older brother is expecting a baby, the Reddit user was initially happy for him. They were having trouble coming up with a name.

By the time his brother’s fiance had the baby, they still hadn’t revealed the name to anyone. Finally, they told everyone they were choosing Riley.

“They f------ took my son's Identity. Middle name and all.”

He was angry, and even other family members were upset on his behalf. The brother kept apologizing, however he has no plans to change the name.

“My brother and his fiancée told me that they just couldn't decide on a name and my brother's fiancée found it pretty so they decided to go with that one.”

The Reddit user did not accept the brother’s apology, even though their family has urged him too. He said he finds the act extremely disrespectful.

“I feel betrayed by my brother and I lost respect for them. My brother's fiancée didn't owe me any loyalty but I felt like he did.”

He continued: “I've been told that I can always name my son the same name but that DEFEATS THE PURPOSE of it being a unique name in the first place.”

In the comments, people told him to get back at his brother by getting a dog and naming it Riley.

One wrote: “Been thinking about getting a pet? Get an ugly dog, give it that name. ‘Well, this was the name I planned to give my first child since I was X years old. I won't be having a child any time soon so I thought it would be perfect for my first pet as an adult!’”
