Blake Lively revealed that she wore many pieces from her own wardrobe in her upcoming movie It Ends With Us after fans brutally roasted the frumpy outfits featured in the trailer.
During a guest appearance on the Today Show , the 36-year-old actress gushed about her role as Lily Bloom in the movie adaptation of It Ends with Us based on the controversial Colleen Hoover novel. And while many slammed the outfit choices featured in the movie trailer, Blake stood by Lily's sense of style and shared that many of the looks were clothes taken right out of her personal closet.
In the interview, Blake said: "I mean I love Lily's style. I think when you see the film her style makes sense because she's a woman of multitudes. It's storytelling. To me fashion and costume design is storytelling."

To which Today Show journalist Tamron Hall responded: "Can I tell you my favorite? Like take-my-breath-away favorite? Those boots." And Blake excitedly replied: "Those are my boots. Those are my real-life boots. A lot of it's my real-life clothes, or my husband's clothes, or my girlfriend Gigi's clothes."
And while many of the pieces come from Blake, Gigi Hadid , and Ryan Reynolds' personal high fashion wardrobes, more than a few fans dissed the outfits featured in the movie trailer. After the teaser dropped, many took to Reddit sharing their distaste for Lily's style. One critic joked: "She looks like Lizzie McGuire on a bender." And another joked: "It’s like Carrie Bradshaw costumed by Ross Dress For Less."
And another replied: "What the actual hell….fire all the stylists for this movie rn…Isn’t she meant to be playing a 23 year old?? WHAt." While someone else questioned: "She looks like a crazy aunt who practices alternative medicine and does pottery lmao. How is she supposed to be the character from the book?" Another agreed: "The main character in the book was never described wearing stuff like this nor does it really suit her character’s personality I wanna talk to the costume department rn."
The trailer was met with so much backlash that the director of the movie Justin Baldoni was forced to speak out on the criticism. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in May, he said: "We're not always thinking about why her clothes look that way in that area. And also once you see the movie, it all makes sense," and added: "I understand when you love something so much, you know, social media is amazing in [the] way it gives fans a voice. And if it were not for the fans, we would not be making this movie. So let them talk."
