Toni Braxton reveals heart attack terror as she praises sister for 'saving her life' during health scare

R&B icon Toni Braxton makes a shocking revelation about a health scare she had on the season premiere of her family’s show The Braxtons on Friday.

Toni eased into confessing she almost suffered a heart attack with her sisters Towanda, Trina, Tamar , and their mother Dr. Evelyn Braxton, being that it happened two years after their sister Traci died from esophageal cancer.

“In true Toni fashion, asked the family to come to dinner, and she had something to tell us, but this time when she told us that she wanted to talk, the setting of her tone was very melancholy, and I'm really afraid, because Toni had this health scare recently,” Trina said in the show.

“Toni has always been recluse when it comes to her feelings. She's never really been this person who just wants everybody to know what's going on with her in her life, and especially with her health,” she added.

Toni’s reasoning for not being forthcoming with her health struggles has to do mostly with her late sister.

“I know I have to tell the girls about a health scare, which makes me feel some kind of way, because the last health scare we heard was Traci…” the Just Be A Man About It singer explained. “On the brink of Traci stuff, I don't want to get them riled up, [thinking] ‘Oh, is Toni okay?’ So I don't even want to tell them. Maybe I shouldn't. I don't know.”

During the dinner, Toni broke down the entirety of her health issues, which extend beyond her 2007 lupus diagnosis. The seven-time Grammy winner disclosed that she almost had a widowmaker heart attack. A widowmaker heart attack is when “a key artery that moves blood to the heart gets almost or completely blocked,” according to WebMD.

However, Toni clarified that her doctors had “caught it just before it happened,” revealing, “If I had a heart attack I wouldn't have survived, I wouldn't be here right now.”

An emotional Toni was in full-blown tears when she noted to her loved ones that she believed that Traci was her guardian angel.

“They told me your sister was watching over you because they right, you should be dead today. You should not be alive,” she said. Toni mentioned that “eventually” she’d need to get bypass surgery although she already has a stent in her heart.

“I had to have a stint put in my heart, which was extremely scary,” she admitted in her confessional. “That's a very scary procedure itself, but when my doctor told me I might not ever be able to do a tour again. Okay? I heard it before, but this was different. They say you may never be able to do another tour because you could have a heart attack.”

The Kingdom Come actress expressed to her family how emotionally taxing her health scare was on her psyche.

“It’s crazy anxiety. I just think about it all the time… It’s really messed up that I’m scared every day. If I have a heart attack, I won’t survive. I can’t handle even that feeling,” Toni unveiled.

Responding, Towanda said: “Just because they say it, doesn’t make it true.”

Toni shared during her confessional: “All I could think about were the boys and I hate saying it out loud even now, because it’s real. It’s real life,” Toni added in a confessional,” as she referred to her sons, Denim and Diezel Braxton-Lewis.
