Jayson Tatum's mom hits out at Steve Kerr over lack of Olympics action

Jayson Tatum's mother could not help but voice her frustrations after seeing her son not being used at all in Team USA's close game with Serbia this week.

Competing for minutes alongside the likes of LeBron James , Kevin Durant , Devin Booker , Anthony Edwards and Anthony Davis , head coach Steve Kerr did not find a role for Tatum in the game - choosing not to use him at all , playing zero minutes along with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.

The decision caused outrage on social media, with Draymond Green criticizing Kerr , is own head coach with the Golden State Warriors for not opting to play him.

Another who had questioned the call had been ESPN basketball analyst Dick Vitale who tweeted: "Someone pls let me know is Jayson Tatum injured as he hasn’t received the PT (playing time) u would expect an All-NBA player to get..."

Tatum's mother responded: "No he not. But if you find out what’s going on please let me know – unacceptable and makes NO SENSE." She then followed that tweet up with another, writing: "If Kerr is watching this and willingly deciding ‘Yeah, Jayson Tatum couldn’t help here’ then he legitimately cannot coach in 2028."

After the game, Kerr attempted to explain why Tatum was left on the bench in what seemed to be a harsh decision, insinuating that he felt he could not play everyone on the roster while wanting to stick to a rotation.

"It’s not what I’m not seeing from Jayson; it’s what I’ve seen from the other guys... It’s just hard to play 11 people, even in an NBA game..."

He added: "Our second unit was not great last night, but that group has been one of the bright spots on this team, especially on the defensive end. So it’s not about what Jayson is doing or not doing. It’s just about combinations and the way that group has played together, the way Kevin [Durant] has filled in since he came back from his injury. It’s just a math problem more than anything."

Team USA will battle France in the gold medal game on Saturday afternoon, set to tip off at 3:30pm, with all eyes on Kerr to see if he uses Tatum early on.
