Inside Kevin Durant's huge business portfolio as NBA star becomes PSG shareholder

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has expanded his already diverse investment portfolio . French journalist Romain Molina reported that the 35-year-old NBA star is a new minority stakeholder in reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris-Saint Germain .

The investment in the French superpower, which valued at $4.4 billion, is another step for Durant's investment company Thirty-Five Ventures -- a nod to his old NBA number -- in the soccer world.

Durant has spent much of the summer in France, helping Team USA capture the men's basketball gold medal at the Paris Olympics . Durant starred for the Americans off the bench for much of the tournament before being elevated to the starting lineup for the title game.

The 14-time All-Star visited the PSG campus this summer, remarking on the quality of the training facilities and the grandeur of the club.

“Yeah, just the history. The love for sport. The love for art in general," Durant said about PSG . "The people make it what it is. I get so much love every time I come here. I appreciate the sport and you know just a beautiful city to be in overall."

Thirty-Five Ventures, founded by Durant with his business partner and friend Rich Kleinman in 2017, has invested in over 1000 small businesses and 50 private companies over the years.

Some highlights include an early investment in Postmates, which has been since acquired by Uber and has seen its value soar. Durant has also invested in Dapper Labs, Coinbase, Jeeves, Alt, Confluera, and Liftoff.

“I know I’m just a basketball player, so I was smart enough to hire people who are really good in that field [of business],” Durant told Hoopshype in 2018. “I can’t take all of the credit for that. I have such a great team of people around me who have pushed me to explore that field and learn more about it because, like I said, I’m just a basketball player."

Durant has also expanded into football over the years, namely with a 5% stake in the Philadelphia Union. They've reached the playoffs six straight seasons and have risen to become the 15th most valuable MLS Franchise.

"My team and I connected instantly with the Union coaching staff and leadership, as well as the team’s story," Durant said when he first invested in the side. "Off the pitch, I’m looking forward to working in the Chester and Philadelphia communities and making an impact."

Durant is also a co-owner of NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham FC. They were league champions in 2023 thanks to an exciting 2-1 championship victory over OL Reign in a match drawing over twenty-five thousand fans.

Durant might be best known for his enduring partnership with Nike. The sides agreed to a lifetime contract in 2023, making him just the third NBA player to sign such a deal (alongside Michael Jordan and LeBron James).

The Suns forward has released a signature shoe with Nike since his rookie season as a Seattle SuperSonic in 2007. This year, the 17th "KD" models made gave him the current second-longest signature NBA shoe holder.
