Jeopardy! fans rocked after favorite feature stripped from game in unexpected twist

Hawk-eyed Jeopardy! fans noticed a detail was taken off the show suddenly.

Typically, during the credits, they show a glimpse of the upcoming contestants. However, that sneak peek was removed as a fan on the Jeopardy! Reddit wrote: "Why are next-day contestants not announced anymore after the game? I noticed last night that they stopped announcing the players for the next episode during the closing credits."

Another fan blamed it on a past issue, writing: "No one knows why, but maybe due to the Ben Chan absence incident from April 2023 where he was unable to return due to illness?"

"I’m guessing the WGA Strike impacting the start of season 40 pretty much killed this," another fan wondered. However, others were quick to point out that the shows are pre-recorded, so they know exactly who will be on the next episode.

That doesn't seem to have prevented Ben accidentally being announced when he shouldn't hav been. A fan explained: "The end-of-episode preview on Friday, April 14, 2023, billed Ben Chan as defending against two challengers. When the new "this week's contestants" was posted on the morning of April 17, it showed three new challengers."

According to the Redditor, this irritated a lot of fans at the time. One on Twitter, formerly known as X, said they felt "lied to" and expressed their displeasure when this all went down. They wrote: "In today's world, it's completely understandable why someone might not be able to make a taping. My problem is that there's the discrepancy between the preview and Contestant Zone."

Not only did they stop the previous, producers also notice that Johnny wasn't making those announcements dating as far back as April.

Jeopardy! is technically off-season right now, so a fan wondered if it was just because right now they're doing re-run episodes from the Tournament of Champions, but that theory was shut down. One fan said: "That has nothing to do with it. They haven’t done it since the end of last season."

One fan joked that it was to allow for "more time for those sweet commercials." While fans notice the change, not all cared that much. "Personally it doesn't add much value for me. And they probably prefer to use that space for ads," wrote another fan.
