Louis Rees-Zammit made feelings clear on his first taste of playing an NFL game

The Kansas City Chiefs deployed in four different roles in his preseason debut where he, somewhat incredibly, played his first-ever American football game in the NFL.

A former rugby superstar, Rees-Zammit made the transition to American football and was picked up by the Chiefs , who have used him at both running back and wide receiver throughout their offseason workouts and training camp. But on Saturday, the Welshman took to the gridiron in a game setting for the first time and got his opportunities to showcase his talents.

Rees-Zammit saw snaps at running back, kicker and upback while receiving a pass out of the backfield, gaining just four yards in his debut. And despite failing to wow fans with his performance, Rees-Zammit spoke with pride of playing in his first-ever game while knowing where he needs to improve.

"It was a great first experience," Zammit told The Irish NFL Show after Saturday's game. "I loved it, I loved getting the snaps I did, on special teams as well which was great. I've just got to look back on this, review it and see how I can get better.

"I got a little kick-off, that was great, being able to play special teams is amazing. To be able to exploit different skills. But yeah, I'm happy. I'll see how I can get better and take it onto the next game.

"The atmosphere was great, it was pretty electric in the stadium and there was a load of Chiefs fans, which helped massively. It was a great game and I'm looking forward to the next one."

Despite the Chiefs viewing Rees-Zammit as a running back, it remains to be seen where his long-term position will be in the NFL - with many believing his optimal role would be as a wide receiver.

A former winger in rugby, Rees-Zammit's strengths are in his speed and explosivity, rather than his running power. Standing at 6'2 and weighing just 205lbs, the speedster's measurables seemingly fit the mold of a receiver.

But being new to the sport, Rees-Zammit is likely to take some time to learn to run routes effectively, with running back being the position to easily get the ball in his hands. The rookie will get his next opportunity against the Detroit Lions this upcoming weekend.
