An opportunity to feature in one of Hollywood's most iconic sports movie franchises is now available to residents of the New York metro area .

Netflix's "Happy Gilmore 2," the long-awaited sequel to Adam Sandler's golf comedy sensation, will begin production this fall and is in the market for movie extras, with no prior acting experience required according to NJ.com.

The New York-based talent agency Grant Wilfrey Casting will host an open casting call from the Hyatt Regency in Morristown, New Jersey on August 20 from 1-8 p.m. ET, looking to local actors of all ages and ethnicities. For non-SAG (Screen Actors Guild) members, a daily stipend of $176 is offered, with filming beginning in November and spanning across Bergen, Essex, Monmouth, Morris and Somerset counties.

The initial "Happy Gilmore" film helped transform Sandler into a global acting star and became an instant classic, depicting an unsuccessful hockey player who finds surprising success in golf and clashes with the sport's more aristocratic cultural norms. And despite a mixed critical review, "Happy Gilmore" earned $41 million in the box office from a $12 million budget and stands as one of the most iconic sports films of all time.

Sandler's film has found cultural significance in the golfing community, particularly with his "Happy Gilmore swing," which involves an unorthodox running or walking approach to the tee. Irish golfer Padraig Harrington, a two-time British Open champion, has minted the most popular impression of Happy's driver, even reportedly incorporating the gag into his training.

Across the following 30 years, Sandler would go on to star in Hollywood comedy movies collectively grossing over $2 billion, his most notable films including "The Wedding Singer" and the Grown Ups franchise. In 2016, the now-$420 million man transitioned away from the silver screen and signed a distribution deal with Netflix, where he's produced and starred in Uncut Gems and Hustle among other works, and approached the streaming giants with a surprising sequel to his breakout hit.

“We’ve been jammin’ and (writing). We have a million ideas already, we just got to make it a movie and make sure we’re excited about people, you know, enjoying it," Sandler said on the Dan Patrick Show in April about the film. "It’s important. We love Happy Gilmore. We don’t want to let anybody down.”

New York area fans will get another opportunity to interact with the iconic franchise across the Hudson River with Christopher McDonald, Sandler's former co-star and legendary antagonist Shooter McGavin, who will be participating in The M&M’s Peanut Butter Mega-Challenging Mini Golf Experience on August 28. The Brooklyn-based event offers a chance to compete against McDonald, with a Peanut Butter jacket and a yearlong supply of Peanut M&M's also up for grabs.

The New York native has teased a return to the iconic film franchise, currently signed to a non-disclosure agreement after revealing the return of Happy Gilmore before Netflix's announcement.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” McDonald said in March. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”
