Aaron Rodgers has surreal sporting comparison for his controversial Egypt trip

Aaron Rodgers, always one for a soundbite, offered a unique comparison to Egypt after visiting the North African country this summer.

"It was one of the few places in life where it kind of exceeded the expectations, to be honest," Rodgers said. "The only other place that was kind of like that was when I went to Augusta."

Rodgers is referring to the golf course where the Masters is held each April. He visited Egypt this summer while the Jets hosted a mandatory minicamp at their practice facility, as the former Green Bay Packer blamed a scheduling mishap for his absence.

"I originally scheduled it based on the previous year’s [practice] schedule," he said . "[It] had us out, I believe, by the 9th or 10th. So once I saw the [new] schedule, I was trying to move some things around. It just didn’t happen."

Rodgers was fined "more than 50k" for missing the minicamp, though the team reportedly knew of his trip and Jets players had " zero issues ." Jets fans originally had no idea why Rodgers wasn't present at the camp. He quelled those rumors while at the American Country Golf Championship in mid-July, announcing he "had a beautiful trip to Egypt."

Rodgers is a big golf fan: he appeared at the American Country Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Resort in Nevada this July for the 20th time.

Rodgers has spoken about his love for the Masters many times in the past. "It exceeds even your highest expectations." Rodgers said of the course. "The attention to detail on the grounds is unbelievable. There is not a blade of grass out of place on the entire property."

Speaking with ESPN Milwaukee , Rodgers offered a humorous anecdote on why he loves Augusta. "We were pretty hungry... me and my high school best friend were messing around. There’s a group of like 15 people and they got some special passes to some tent.

"I, for some reason, didn’t have it. So we were walking around the grounds [and] got hungry. [We] went down to the place to get food and pulled out $100 to pay for some beers and sandwiches and stuff and they said ‘$27’. I was like, ‘Excuse me?’ So just the pricing there is pretty amazing."

Rodgers did not appear in the Jets preseason opener last Saturday against the Washington Commanders, a 20-17 victory. The veteran quarterback said he's " not worried " about playing preseason games.

That means he might not get his first taste of action until the Jets opener against the vaunted San Francisco 49ers defensive front, led by Nick Bosa and Fred Warner.
