Elvis Presley fans across the world are paying tribute on the anniversary of his death , but one expert is stepping in to challenge the "gruesome" myths about how he died.

The rock 'n' roll legend passed away on August 16, 1977, and his untimely death at just 42 years old sent shockwaves through the music scene. On that summer day, the Suspicious Minds hitmaker was found dead at his Graceland mansion in Memphis.

Sally A Hoedel, author of Destined to Die Young, has dedicated herself to debunking the many myths that have cropped up around Elvis' death after conducting thorough research into the singer's life. She's determined to put an end to the "sensationalised" tales that continue to circulate.

In an exclusive chat with The Mirror, Sally revealed that those expecting a big reveal when the autopsy results are supposedly "released" in three years will be left hanging. According to her, it's not a matter of them being released; they're already out there for those who look.

She explained: "The myth of the autopsy report being released in 2027 continues to plague him. First, it suggests some smoking gun, which is just not the case. Second, it is a private family document and they will not be required to release it upon the 50th anniversary of his death. I believe this rumor began just over pure confusion."

Sally went on to add: "According to Tennessee State Law, it is the death certificate that will be made public in 2027, not the autopsy report. The autopsy report and its contents are very much public already...there is no big mystery waiting to be revealed."

Shedding light on the nature of Elvis' death, she explained that it wasn't as "gruesome" or "dramatic" as some suggest. While acknowledging Elvis' drug use and unhealthy lifestyle, she emphasized that his death was likely more attributable to a genetic condition.

She explained: "The simplistic idea is that it was a drug overdose and that he ate himself to death," she added. "Both are as far from the truth as you can get. There's absolutely zero evidence of a drug overdose death; zero. It was a very quick heart-related issue."

Sally also pointed out a potential genetic link, noting: "I don't think he would have had a long life, given everything that was wrong with him and especially the heart and liver disorder that is present in his family. The heart issue is not necessarily recognisable. We don't know what that is, but it's absolutely precedent," and added: "We see it in the family, even his father died young. There is young related death on the Presley side of the family too."

Elvis' mum, Gladys, also tragically died of a heart attack. However, Sally revealed that her doctor was baffled by her liver disease, leading Sally to believe it played a significant role in her death. The author further delved into the premature deaths of Elvis' uncles at ages 46, 49, and 59, all due to liver, heart, and lung-related illnesses.
